Nancy Nelson Fund: Scholarship for Former Teen Parents

Nancy Nelson was fiercely dedicated to supporting and advocating for all young people, especially teen parents. She lobbied to pass the first legislation in Minnesota to support keeping teen parents in school. Nancy also mentored undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Minnesota. The work she did advocating for teen parents she did with the goal that they'd attend college, and the U was one of the great Minnesota schools she knew students aspired to attend. Nancy founded the Minnesota Organization on Adolescent Pregnancy, Prevention and Parenting in partnership with 4H. Friends and family of Nancy's established this fund in her memory to support student parents at the University of Minnesota. They remain inspired by Nancy's words, "Throughout my life I have been enriched by opportunities to serve and give to the causes that I believe make the world a better place for everyone."
